Balaban's Barbecue Night

If there's any food trend more popular than barbecue these days, I don't know what it is. Starting April 18, and every Tuesday thereafter, we will have our own barbecue night here at Balaban's - enjoy great barbecue options at great prices. Don't miss it!

So, what to DRINK with your barbecue feast.

Beer may just be the perfect drink with barbecue. Really, almost any style will work depending on your personal preference. Here's a few choices available from the Balaban's bar: Crisp and refreshing: North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner - $5. Slightly sweet and malty: Left Hand Milk Stout - $5. For the Hop Heads: Firestone Easy Jack IPA - $5 or Stone Ruination Double IPA - $6.50.

Maybe it's wine that's the perfect drink with barbecue. Sweet, smoke, pepper, vinegar and a multitude of other spices make up the different styles of barbecue. These bold flavors require a bold, fruit forward wine. I would stay away from highly tannic Cabernet Sauvignon - save that for your next New York Strip Steak. Instead, opt for Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Grenache or red blends from California, Washington, France, Italy or Spain. Those are a lot of choices, but Balaban's has a lot of wine. Browse through the racks, or ask your server for some recommendations. You will have many great wine options at all price levels. If you prefer a wine by the glass, go for the 2014 Cline Zinfandel - $10, 2014 Terra D'Oro Petite Sarah - $11 or Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee - $12.

See you at Balaban's Barbecue Night!
