Balaban's Wins Top Award from World of Wines

World of Fine Wine has announced its World's Best Wine Lists of 2015.  Balaban's was  awarded 3 Stars, their highest rating. (Balabans was awarded 2 stars in 2014.)

There were 300 restaurants world- wide awarded 3 stars; 116 in the US; only 1 other St. Louis restaurant - Truffles was awarded 3 Stars. (Annie Gunn's was awarded 2 Stars and Sidney Street Cafe was awarded 1 Star.)

Here's what World of Wines said about Balaban's:

Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the wine list at Balabans, it’s hard to disagree with the assertion that this bistro and wine retail outlet is “the absolute authority on wine in St-Louis.”

As the judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists 2015 put it, this is “a hugely impressive [list] and extensive with a very good selection of mature wine.”

Running to 860 bins, and clearly arranged by grape variety, the list roams freely around the world, with fine choices in all of the major European classic regions, and a smattering of fine choices from Australia, Argentina, and Chile. But it is perhaps the collection of top American wines that stands out most of all, with Washington State and Oregon well represented alongside the big and emerging names of California.

Even better for diners in the bistro is the pricing, with all wines served at the very reasonable retail prices plus $8 corkage.
