CHATEAU MONTELENA WINES

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2018

6:30 PM

In 1976 Chateau Montelena helped put California at the forefront of the wine world. That year a who's-who of the French wine and food establishment gathered for a grand tasting at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Paris.

Four white Burgundies were tasted against six California Chardonnays. When the scores were tallied, the French Judges were convinced that the top-ranking white wine was one of their own. In fact, it was Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay, rated above all other wines. The results proved that Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world's finest wines, and that California's wine industry had come of age.

Today, Chateau Montelena continues to make extraordinary award winning wines.

Please join us for a 5 Course wine pairing dinner featuring the wines of Chateau Montelena. The doors open at 6:30PM with a sparkling wine and appetizer reception. The Wine Dinner begins at 7PM.

1st Course

FRIED OYSTER DUO : SAFFRON AND CHAMPAGNE AIOLI AND SORREL, AND WHITE-WINE MARINADE WITH CRÈME FRAICHE AND FRIED SPINACH
2015 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay – Napa Valley, California
The ripeness of the vintage is apparent as pineapple and stone fruit burst from the glass during the first pour. Fresh melon, along with cinnamon, nutmeg and myriad baking spices follow suit as the wine begins to warm, and its aromatic opulence comes into focus. The texture of the mid-palate seamlessly overlays the dense, concentrated finish, punctuated by baked apple, vanilla, and a hint of white pepper.

2nd Course

PARMESAN REGGIANO RISSOTTO WITH PHEASANT AND RABBIT CONFIT SAUSAGE
2014 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel – Napa Valley, California
In the glass, the nose is dominated by cocoa, tobacco, and dried cherry. The woodsy character of old vine Zinfandel is quite prominent but with time unmasks beautiful notes of lavender, cassis, and fresh mint. Fresh cranberry mingles with roasted walnut notes and subtle hints of cinnamon and clove. The supple tannins are present throughout and amble between earthiness and minerality.

3rd Course

DRY-AGED NEW YORK STRIP STEAK WITH TRUFFLE WHIPPED POTATOES AND CABERNET REDUCTION
2015 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley, California
Fresh raspberries tee off a parade of red fruit punctuated by rich strawberry jam, and bolstered by vanilla, black pepper, and violets. A latent weight and density on the palate along with fine-grained tannins that have just begun to slowly integrate with the rich, dark fruit of the vintage. The texture and mouthfeel of the wine build on the transition to the finish, which strikes a fine balance between the subtle acidity lingering just below the surface and the concentration of the fruit and tannins.

4th Course

WILD BOAR TENDERLOIN, SERVED WITH BRAISED SWISS CHARD AND SPICED CRANBERRY COULIS
2014 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley, California
The interplay of cassis, vanilla, and black cherry are quite complementary yet also dynamic; shifting to fresh blueberry with a hint of tobacco. These, in turn, are buttressed by dark chocolate, mocha, and a slight suggestion of sweet oak. Silky, fine-grain tannins vie with vibrant acidity that slowly expose the rich, ripe raspberry and blackberry notes that dominate the mid palate. While the fruit is lush and mouth coating, some patience will unveil the subtle layers of anise, smoke, and earth hidden beneath.

Dessert

APRICOT MOUSSE TART
2016 Royal Tokaji Late Harvest – Hungary
This wine has a zesty, sweet floral aroma, with delicate, well-spiced flavors of apple tart, flan and cocoa powder. The plush, mouth-filling finish of cream, vanilla, and raspberry is fresh and balanced.
