STL Business Journal Reports on Balaban's Wine Award

botles of wineBalaban's received notable attention in a St. Louis Business Journal article on the 2015 Wine Spectator Awards.   Only four restaurants in St. Louis received the Wine Spectator Second Tier Award.  Those restaurants were among the 973 worldwide to win the second-tier award. Winners typically offer 350 or more wines and show either vintage “depth,” with yearly bottles of several top producers from major regions, or “breadth” across several regions.

Chesterfield-based Balaban’s said the “Best Award” was the restaurant’s fourth consecutive from Wine Spectator. The restaurant, which doubles as a wine retailer, recently adopted a device that allows it to test wines from its list for how they would pair with menu items. Steve McIntyre, co-owner of the restaurant, said in a statement the device lets staff, “without opening and essentially ruining a high priced bottle, to sell a special pour of that select vintage.”

The official award listings will be announced in the August 31, 2015 edition of Wine Spectator.
